Statement from the Trustees of the Mary Jacobs Memorial Library Foundation

Rocky Hill, NJ, January 31st, 2018: We, the Trustees of the Mary Jacobs Memorial Library Foundation have only recently learned, after the decision had been made by Montgomery Township, that a new library will be built in Montgomery. The Somerset County Library System is expected to operate this new branch, and construction is projected to take approximately three years.

In the ordinary course of business, we recently elected new leadership. Under this leadership, we are in the process of exploring all possible futures for the Mary Jacobs Memorial Library Foundation, which owns the building and grounds of the current library. Going forward, we are fully committed to the stewardship of Mary Jacobs’ legacy and to her husband’s wishes that the Foundation serve the community. As the Foundation’s future plans come into focus, we will update community members in order to be as transparent as possible.

For almost 50 years, the Mary Jacobs Memorial Library Foundation has been honored to serve a vital need in the community, and we will continue our work at the current location until the new library is ready. We will continue to maintain the library and make improvements where we can. Our goal remains unchanged: to provide the same comfortable, welcoming community space that patrons have enjoyed and counted on.

Sincerely,

Cary Dawson, President
